It suits me perfectly! I love all things water, sun, and fun.
I draw most of my inspiration from the beautiful surroundings of my coastal hometown, and this series was no different. However, this series did arise from a more personal place.
Last August marked a significant turning point in my life. In the span of just a week, I dropped one college student off in Virginia and the other in Louisiana. As I drove back to our home in New England, the realization hit me hard—for the first time, I was returning to an empty nest.
The house, once filled with laughter, chaos, and endless activity, now echoed with silence.
It wasn’t just the absence of my children that I felt; it was the palpable shift in my life’s landscape - a blank canvas and a daunting void.
The week after I returned, packing up our family home and downsizing to a new place added another layer of complexity to my emotions. Each item I packed was a memory, each box a chapter of our family story. The process was both physically exhausting and emotionally draining. There were moments when I felt utterly lost, overwhelmed by the changes and the uncertainty of what lay ahead.
During this time, I found that watching sunsets offered me profound stillness and clarity.
Each sunset became a silent dialogue with nature, reminding me of life's transitions and the beauty in endings that pave the way for new beginnings.
Watching as the sun sinks into the sea prompts reflection on nature’s changes and the tranquil moments when we can reconnect with our dreams.
Creating these paintings was my way of embracing the change and finding peace in the unknown. Each brushstroke was a step toward healing, a moment of reconnecting with myself and my artistic aspirations. I aimed to translate the tranquility and introspective atmosphere of sunsets into my art, hoping to evoke the same feelings of calm and contemplation in those who view them.
